Wirral Line. Formerly a boundary between 3rd rail electric and diesel parts of the line, where all trains terminated and passengers had to change trains.

Electrification was then extended to Chester & Ellesmere Port.

The station has 4 platforms. Formerly, 2 were used for terminating diesels and the other 2 for terminating electrics.

Now, the diesel platforms are the through platforms. The terminating electrics platforms (platforms 3 and 4) are used for early morning starting trains only.

There are ramps from the street to the booking hall. And another ramp direct from the street to Liverpool-bound platforms 2-4 (maybe used when the ticket office is closed).

Platform 1 (towards Chester and Ellesmere Port) has no SFA with a stepped ramp to the footbridge.
