Cramped station between SLL and SWML viaducts; SWML alignment means narrow platforms
Adding a new station entrance and two lifts
About this station
This station is at the former junction of the Brighton Main Line (Victoria-Clapham Junction) and South London Line (Victoria-Wandsworth Road). Battersea Park junction has been removed
The South London line is now operated by London Overground (LO) as the Windrush (East London) Line (Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction). Battersea Park has a parliamentary service where a handful of Overground trains call to maintain route knowledge.
Platforms
Platform 1 (former down south London Line) is made of wood and disused
Platform 2 (former up South London LIne) is now a bay platform for LO
Platform 3 and 4: Brighton Main Line down and up slow platforms β these are the most useful ones
Platform 5: Brighton Main Line down fast platform β used in disruption only
Iβm not aware of there ever being a platform 6 on the up fast
Current accessibility
The station site is very limited and was βbuilt in a gap jammed between viaductsβ according to lavenderhill.uk.
Platforms 2 and 3 have a grand set of stairs that could almost be in a Victorian stately home.
Platforms 4 and 5 complement them in an imaginative fashion β the stairs are like cellar access for servants whom the architect personally hated.
the steps leading to platforms 4 and 5 β¦ must be just about the steepest and narrowest set of steps leading to any station platform in the country (London Reconnections)

Progress
An accessibility upgrade has been in the works since 2014 and a proposal was finally drawn up in 2021. However, it would cost Β£35.6m but the only available funding was from Wandsworth Council (Β£17m including developer contributions) and the DfT (Β£4m).
The issue is that platforms 4/5 are so narrow that a lift cannot be installed at the ticket hall. Instead, it needs to be installed further down the platform with an access passage cut through the railway arches.
The scheme was then reworked to cost Β£20m. ianVisits reports that a new station entrance is planned and a path by the arches will be used to access it.
