About Network Rail regions and routes
A Network Rail (NR) route is not what we would normally think of as a “route”. It’s effectively multiple lines managed together.
A Network Rail (NR) region is multiple “routes” managed together
Network Rail routes are listed on this page as region/route, for example:
Southern/Kent
Denotes
Southern region: Kent route
(This is multiple train lines between London and Kent, including the Kent Coast, Chatham, and Catford Loop lines)
Abbreviations
NR = Network Rail
NWC = North West Central, a Network Rail “region” that comprises, unsurprisingly, “North West” and “Central” routes. These routes are formed of various lines such as the West Coast Main Line, Cumbrian Coast Line, Cross City Line
